Chandelier project

After a day of antiquing with my Mom and sister, and overloading Jon with several shops  I decided to turn to ebay to for an Art Nuevo/Art Deco era chandelier. While I didn't end up getting a slipshade chandiler like I originally planned I did find one that I am quite happy with. Since I found it on Ebay it is a little more of a project. Here's to painting and rewiring! What did people to before the internet and its endless supply of tutorials?

More to come.

Finished Bathroom

The bathroom started because they had not used "greenboard" drywall and water had seeped into the wall. If you pushed on the tiles you could see the wall bend in. Another issue was the window ledge, it was straight and water wouldn't drain off. Since all the tile was getting ripped out we figured we'd just redo the whole thing.

FINISHED!

Finished!

Busy week

We haven't been at the house much this week because of work schedules and other life events. Our contractor however has been hard at work.

Not the most exciting but very practical. A new water heater. The old one was working but could have gone out at anytime so we decided to go a head and put a new one in.

*note- the furnace behind the water heater will be replaced as well.

Joe the contractor also installed new installation as well as replaced the recessed lighting in the living room. These were a little more difficult to get pictures of so I have nothing to post.

Bathroom Update

Painting

My parents came for the day to see the house and help do some painting

Previous color of the walls. In this lighting it looked brown but in other lighting it looked mauve.

We've painted the upstairs the lighter color below.

This picture is of our bedroom. We painted three walls the same as the rest of the upstairs and one wall blue with glitter! You can't see the glitter in the picture because it very subtle.

Art Deco Living Room Palette

The living room wallpaper.
This will be going on the far right wall when coming in the door. The pic looks more green and less gold than in reality.

Dining Room wall color
I can't find a picture of the exact paint we're using but this is pretty close.

Couch color
Again, can't find the exact color but this is similar.

Cork Flooring. Who woulda thought?

Pros of cork flooring
Sustainability
More info

I love the look of a this sustainable flooring! We've decided to go with this in the upstairs bathroom and are debating putting it in the two bedrooms.

The flooring upstairs is currently very eclectic. In the kitchen/living room area there is manufactured wood, the hallway is tile, the bathroom is now cork and the bedrooms had carpeting that has already been ripped out.

Hmmm, budget dilemma. To pay extra out of cash flow or to not pay extra....

The Front

Step one.

This made me laugh. I guess they were to lazy to paint behind the mirror.

Before Pictures

Jon and I just bought our first house!

Since we are first time home buyers we are able to role renovation costs into the mortgage so we are getting some work done before we move in.

First off the kitchen. The description on the real-estate listing said "newly remodeled, spacious kitchen".
What that really means is long awkward kitchen with new appliances and old cabinets that were painted over. There is a 16ft space between the walls with cabinets.

Since Jon and I place a high value on cooking and feeding people this is the first thing to go.

The living room is in pretty good shape but we're going to have some fun with it so here's a before picture.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that since our house was a short sale the previous owner left a ton of stuff that is now legally ours. Anyone in need of a huge set of kicked in speakers? How about a purple chair with a broken spring? No? How about an old school big screen tv that we thing weighs a couple hundred pounds?

Next is the upstairs bathroom. Water has soaked through the tiles and made the wall soft. Meaning the tiling has to be ripped out, the wall replaced and new tiling put in. While we are at it we are going to put a new sink vanity, flooring and mirror in.
